Hello, my friend, and thank you so very much for taking part and supporting the efforts of this fulfilling project/cause/movement to teach, raise awareness, and raise funds to support those who are on the frontlines as we all seek a more fair, equal, and overall better world. Your donation and proud display of this BLM sign are examples that prove that all of us can somehow contribute to a better life for all. Sincerely, Thank you!
During these past several weeks we have experienced the latest deeply saddening events based on racial inequality. In an effort to further educate my kids and help them truly understand what is happening today in our country and around the world, and to show them that anyone can somehow help us all take the steps necessary to achieve racial equality for all, I began to tell my kids about the history of African Americans. After many related stories, tapered down (for kids) tales of real life events dating back from the 17th to the 21st century that unfortunately brought us to where we are today I could see that even at a very young age they were really soaking it all up and demonstrating great compassion. One day, my 7-year-old told me: “Dad, we need to get a BLM (black lives matter) sign for our house”. I loved his idea! So, I got my wooden scroll saw out and together as a family we worked on making one.
I live in a predominantly white neighborhood and as a positive reaction to our new front lawn sign, several neighbors stopped by to ask where I had bought that awesome sign. So, I crafted a couple more and gave them to a few more neighbors/friends. Then their neighbors started to ask about their signs…In that I saw an even greater opportunity to add my drop to this huge bucket and further involve my kids in something so important for me and for them. So, I decided to start an awareness and fundraising campaign where my wife, children and I work together make each of the signs together here in my garage by drawing and cutting each wooden letter, sanding them, painting them, assembling the sign, packing them, and finally shipping/delivering them. We called this project CYBLM - See Why Black Lives Matter
